In smokey mountain knife work cataloges there is a closeout odyssey for 30 bucks and the new one for 45 bucks. They are both partially serrarated ats-35 blades with thermoplastic handles. I bought the closeout one and I want to know why there is a $15 difference between the old one and the new one.

Kman, is there any liners besides the lock? The 2001 models have a liner on the right, and a liner lock on the left.

yup thats it, I only have one liner. Does that make it weaker than the new one?
Thanks

Obviously Buck felt that adding the second liner would improve the knife. The weight is slight yet noticable. If you thumb through the other postings, you'll find very few problems with the knife.I own an ats/ps,an hcs/ps and just ordered an hcs plain blade. The ats is the single liner type and was recently E2K. They both work well and are backed 100%,so IMHO enjoy the savings.

Yet another difference has been that the solid metal backbone (spacer) has been replaced by 3 round metal discs at each rivet giving the knife an open back design and allows easy cleaning. I really like the Odyssey, especially the current ones on the market. These knives are often overlooked by many people, but they are great knives for the money.
