I own two RAT-3 with D2, at least I think so. Is there a way to tell if it is really the D2-modell or the 1095-modell?

So far I know that the D2-modell has a more textured coating made of epoxy(?) whereas the 1095 has a neater surface made of Zinc-Nitride(?) which can be stripped more easily.

Thanks for your help or suggestions!

The D2 in my RAT-7 is the hardest steel that I have. An ordinary sharpening stone has very little effect, I have to use a diamond stone.

This knife literally "rings" when I run it across a ceramic stick. Hope this helps.

The handles are different: 1095 has green canvas micarta handles and the D2 has black linen (I think) handles.

D2 version has golden logos and the 1095 did not atleast that is the way mine are ,+ D2 blade is gray powder coat black line scales,1095 is a faded black phospate coating...green(look tan)micarta.

Yeah, the hint with the logo did the job. So simple, yet I did not notice it until directly pointed towards it. Thanks for the other remarks, too.

But as as far as I know there were some versions of the 1095 with black micarta handles as well and the coating was changed several times, especially for the D2-version. Therefore these clues can be helpful, but not 100% useful for idetifiction.
