What exact is the difference between an AK and a Chiruwa style AK?
I can visibly see the difference but of what benifit or purpose does this serve?

Thank you in advance.

Chiruwa style handles have handle slabs instead of a handle that completely encloses the tang. This allows for a more effective transmission of vibration to your hand during chopping :D ;) . Some folks will argue that the chiruwa style handles are stronger than the regular handles, but I haven't noticed any difference. Both styles are nearly indestructible.

It is simply a full tang versus a stick tang. The full tang (chiruwa) could be considered stronger but if both are properly made no human could break either of them. Many believe that the chiruwas allow more vibration to get to the hand, and they are definately going to be somewhat heavier. The extra weight in the handle should act as a counter balance to the blade and make it feel livelier in the hand.

I think the Chiruwa is a little thicker, a little heavier than the standard AK, too. It is the Chiruwa that is called the unbreakable knife.

Bill had one break in ten years or something...then there was a Maoist uprising in Nepal and the Kamis were frightened for their lives. The quality of work declined, and some Chiruwa blades broke then if I'm not mistaken,

It's the Chiruwa Bill would speak of, saying break it and I'll give you two of them. I'm the beneficiary of a blade because of that. This fringe character, I think he calls himself Baglady...no..lets see, Oh! Raghorn. Yes, that's it. He calls himself Raghorn and he got two blades and gave me one of them.

The chiruwas is a "substitute prybar". As for me, I like that style of handle. There is no noticeable increase in vibration if ya know what ya are doin'. :D

YMMV

Chiruwa is my favourite khukuri - feels very lively for its weight and is strong as you like. Levered my 15 stone mate like he was a feather !!

If I could only have one khuk - it would be a chiruwa ak !!

:D
