Difference in Strider SnG blades? (all but tanto)

Can someone explain he differences in the Strider SnG blades? Don't include the tanto I don't want that style for this knife.

I've seen spear point, 3/4 spear point I think? Whats the difference between the two? Is there a drop tip? What other round, curved belly blades was the SnG produced with? Seems there were some different options.

I'm not interested in a custom one, just the basic $400ish line.

Thanks.

For the non-custom or special run SnG's, they're offered in either full flat grind or a 3/4 grind. There are no other "normal" options available. The difference between the two is pretty much up to your own personal preference. I have the full flat and love it. I think aesthetically it looks better but the 3/4 grind will be slightly stronger if you're going to pry with it (which I don't recommend). There are different blade finishes available on each style as well: black oxide, digi-cam, and tiger striped.

^^^This pretty much covered all the bases. :thumbup:

To elaborate on it (and clarify a possible point of confusion in the original post), full flat grind spear point and 3/4 grind spear point have the same blade profile (shape). The only difference is the grind of the primary bevel. So there are really only 2 basic blade shapes for non-custom SnGs: spear point and tanto (which I know you already mentioned you don't want). Everything else is a difference of grind, blade finish, or blade material, not the fundamental shape of the blade.

Ok, so basically the 3/4 has a thicker middle part & spine vs the regular flat grind making the 3/4 a bit beefier?

So the regular runs come in black oxide? I would prefer this for the color of the blade.

I see mostly its G10 for the other scale, which is totally fine, but do they ever come with carbon fiber scales that are non-custom?

I'd prefer carbon fiber over G10 if possible, buy don't want to get into custom prices.

Yes, the 3/4 grind will be slightly stronger due to the blade's cross-section. I believe they are still the same stock of steel as the FFG versions but the 3/4 will maintain its thickness further towards the tip (the FFG is still plenty strong). The black oxide is a regularly offered finish, yes. However, all their finishes are produced at different times. For example, they'll do a run of striped blades then a black oxide run so it depends on what your dealer has in stock. The regular ones come with G10 as the only scale option but its offered in OD green, flat dark earth (brown), or black. You could have a carbon fiber one made but it would be a little pricey if you want the scale and back-spacer milled as one piece like the stock G10 is.

I'd love a carbon fiber scale, but not looking to spend a crazy amount to get it.

I see a SnG on eBay right now that has a OD green aluminum scale with a black blade - this combo looks awesome, but I'd really prefer a black scale.

Did they produce the SnG with a black aluminum scale & black blade as a regular production run?

I would prefer the 3/4 grind for added strength even though I agree with you the flat grind looks slighty better.

I have a question of my own too... Why are they all like named Strider PT, SnG or SMF? What do those terms mean? Does that affect the cost in value?

SnG=Shughart and Gordon

SmF=Strider Military Folder

Not sure what PT stands for.

The differences in cost are due to size of the knives, not the names. SmF is bigger than the SnG which is bigger than the PT.
