I just got a #85 in the mail today..... been looking for a Northfield clip point for a while. Lo and behold, GEC had the coffee house acrylic for sale on their site. They're probably the least popular covers, but I love GEC's acrylic. Anyway, I was comparing it to my other #85, which is a Northfield spear point in cocobolo. The cocobolo has 2011 on the tang stamp and the coffee house 2012..... something I found odd considering it's 2014 and it's actually on the GEC website, even listed as a top seller. Maybe left over parts? The other difference is that the pen blade is on opposite sides of each knife. Is this a standard practice of GEC?

I have 2 #12 ' s and they are set up with the main blade on the mark side. I have a #78 and the main blade is on the pile side. None of this affects the function or aesthetics for me, it's just observation.

Also, my #89 has only 1 back spring and no half stop on the pen blade. Another member (2dead) has the same knife and his has 2 springs, main blade rides both and pen rides 1, with a half stop.

Anybody else notice any differences among the same model? I know quite a few of you have a lot of the same one!

At first I was thinking that it was it was perhaps a spearpoint on the mark side policy but then I realized that my Harness Jack (Primitive Bone in the photo) has the awl on the mark side and the spearpoint on the pile side. Interesting observation draggat and BTW that coffee house acrylic looks quite stunning in your photos.

I forgot to mention that both of my #12 ' s and the #78 are clip points. The #89 is a clip on the mark side and I also have a #66 with a clip on mark side, and of course, my #81 Abilene has the main on the mark... the rest of my multi blades are what I consider main blades on both sides.

Now that I think about it, the main blades are all mark side except the #78 and that #85 spear point.

Brisket- that Primitive Bone sure is purdy!

I have a #36 with coffee house as well.... love that stuff!

The first issue of the teardrop in 2011 had the pile side pen blade, and they switched to the mark side pen with the 2012 release. Different releases often have some slight differences other than handle material, such as straight/slanted bolsters, plain/fluted bolsters, different shields, different nicks, etc.
