Hi. Just wondering if someone would please
detail the difference between a Gelbu Special
and a Sirupati. It seems the more I study the
different pictures and read the discriptions
the more similar they seem? For examples see
these two links:

Thanks

Since I have one of each I'll try.
They are similar, and the deep fuller or blade groove of the GS is the thing you notice first.
The 20" Sirupati I have has a smaller handle than my 19" GS. The blade is balanced further to the front, and the 'sweet spot' is larger. The GS has a thicker blade, but the fuller makes it balance more toward the hand, and makes it a 'quicker' knife.
The Sirupati has a more slender, eel-like point shape, is slightly narrower, but more of its mass is out near the point, so it feels more like a chopper...more point heavy. Indeed, the Sirapati chops VERY well.
I don't know which is better for you. I see my GS as a 'weapon', and the Sirupati as a 'tool', for whatever that's worth.
BTW: The difference is not that important, since you'll eventually want one of each anyway. See...there is no best khuk, and no-one can be satisfied with just ONE!!

This is NOT TRUE IN THE LEAST. NOT only CAN you or anyone else BE SATISFIED with only one HI khuk. And I would say the best one of ALL is the 25" Sirupati that I bought 4 months ago and no one AND I MEAN NO ONE can dispute this fact! IN ADDITION to this my 25" Kobra which came 3 months ago is absolutely the best and would satisfy ANYONE. OF course MY KATANA which I have had for 2 months is not a khuk but is STILL beautiful and I will be getting a TARWAR in about a month so...ummmmm...errr never mind :}
