I have not held the 547 folder with s30v steel and would like some opinions with experience please...
feel free to include opinions on other Buck folders with s30v steel... I mostly used a 110 finger groove with 425 steel for cleaning small and large game... I am more of a bang for the buck kinda guy,pun intended... Thank you...

49er, welcome. Apparently this model has generated some interest as there is 2 topics started on this page with the same model subject. I'm not much help as I've not held this 547. I have used S30V steel a lot and found it to be a good steel (in a 110). This models handle is very different than a 110. I'm guessing it is a liner lock. Seems to be well built. Perhaps there is a knife store near you that has one you can handle. DM

I have not handled one, but there are obvious differences. The 547 is a liner lock, which you may or may not like (I do generally care for them, but there are exceptions). The blade shape is very different from a 110 and that recurved edge, while it cuts well, is hard to sharpen for some folks. It is a flipper, plus it has thumb studs, both for one hand opening. You must add thumb studs to a 110 if you want them because the 110 has neither. It is thicker, I think, through the girth of the handle than the 110 so if you pocket carry your 110 (like me) the 547 is likely not as comfortable. It is a good bit lighter than the 110 by 1.6 oz or so and that is important. It has a modern design, but is not as sleek as the 110. The blade may be stouter, but you can get 110's in drop point so that is a mute point. It is probably a good knife, over all.

Good point Doc on the recurved edge. Most clamp in devices won't sharpen that type. Even when doing it on a stone you have to know some stuff. Yes, it has a ambidextrous thumb stud. Some one on here got the filleting knife and wrote in about the handle being comfortable. Sharpening S30V requires some experience, if you use it enough to dull it. Good luck, DM

Thanks for the comments, the recurve blade I don't care for, sharpening wise... Just trying to decide on a future purchase of s30v steel folder knife and I live a long ways from a town so I needed info from those that know... I have a 277 and 271 in ats-34 and I don't mind the liner lock on those... Thanks again...

The 110 is available with S30V for not much more than that knife. You can get one from the custom shop or you can Google Alaskan Guide Series and get one there (that one is particularly cool).

I passed up the sale on the Alaskan guide 110's recently and that is why the post I started,I like a 110 and wanted info on the 547 to see if it was as appealing to other users... I'll probably pick some of the Alaskan guide 110's up on a future sale... I forgot that Buck it seems is coming up with a replacement blade for 110's that might be in cmp154,I think I read that here,so I might go that route and send some older 110's in depending on the $ of course...

For me, the biggest difference is in the style of the tip: thin clip vs stouter drop point.

A tougher choice might be between the 547 and the drop point 110s.

49er, SKBlades are currently offering a 110 drop point style blade in CPM154 steel. That steel is easy to sharpen. They have a topic going on this front page index forum. If you send in older 110's to Buck you can only get a clip blade replacement in 420HC steel. It is reasonable at 12$. Your move. DM

Patience is a virtue grandma always said, waiting to see what happens with the replacement blade upgrade supposedly coming soon... I own plenty of Buck knives already,so waiting is easy... Always nice to have different opinions of knives from actual owners... Thank you all...

I just got my model 547 in the mail today. As the prices online are well below $100.00 I thought it was a good time to get one. I purchased it with the S30V steel and can say it was money well spent. the look and feel of the 21st century design with a the popular liner lock was impressive. the other materials used to make this production knife are top quality and the knife will most likely last as long as any of the 110's out there. it is very easy to open and close with a tight fitting blade. I have no doubt that this will do well in the market segment it is after. As for the way it stacks up against the model 110, well, it simply falls short of being a contender let alone equal to or better than. The model 110 is most likely going to be the choice of serious hunters for sometime to come. But that's just what I think.

I own the 420HC version (546) which is almost identical except has a thumb slot instead of thumb stud on the blade. It's a different knife from the 110 in almost every way. I love both these knives but they both carry and feel different. Buck obviously designed the 546/547 as a hunting knife. It is a big folder. I will give it 5 stars for ergonomics because it feels amazing in the hand. Buck got every curve and angle right. I just question why they even included a sheath because the pocket clip is so well put together and one of my favorites to carry that way. The recurve blade does take longer to sharpen though. Other thing is I am not a fan of liner lock knives on any of my hunting knives. I prefer lock back design (110) for gutting and skinning but the 546 seems to be solidly built. I've had it now for over a year but still carry and use my 110 more.

Sorry if I am a bit late here.
After 23 days, are your opinions the same? I just ordered mine and I was curious to know how it is holding up after so long.

Cowboys, when you get your knife, start a new thread on this forum and let's talk about it. I would love to read your experiences.
