Differences between Delica and Calypso Jr?

While on vacation I looked at an Endura and Delica. I thought the Endura was a little too big and I liked the size and shape of the Delica better so I picked it up. When I got home and compared it to my Calypso Jr., I thought it was very similar (probably why I liked the Delica, as the Calypso Jr. is probably my favorite folder).

Both have VG10 steel and FRN scales. The Delica is black and a bit bigger and the Calypso is grey.

Are they as similar as they seem? If I had realized they were so similar I would have picked up the Endura, just to be a little different.

the delica has a hollow-ground blade and the blade and handle are distinctively separated. the caly jr has a flat ground blade and a 50/50-choil which allows you to choke up close to the blade more comfy. i have both knives, and prefer the calypso by a very large margin. the only con of the caly is that the spyderhole is somewhat smallish at 11mm

Thanks a lot. That's very good information. I will have to take a closer look. I just eyeballed them last night.

All the things Dennis said, except I count the 11mm hole as a pro over the Delica. I think 11mm is the perfect size for me, I don't wear gloves, and I don't spend much time underwater. . . .

Yes, if the Delica is VG-10 it's a saber grind. The earlier FRN versions were hollow ground and I believe the all stainless version still is. Both the Delica and the Calypso Jr are excellent knives, but I too prefer the Calypso Jr's full flat grind and 50/50 choil. My only, and very minor, gripe was the angular "point" at the top of the thumb ramp. I carry my knives loose in my pocket and feel that "points" like that, whether on the blade or case, cause excessive wear on the pocket. It was a trivial issue since a few minutes with sandpaper was all it took me to round off that area nicely. Sure, I'd prefer a larger thumb hole on "general principles", but the Calypso Jr's action is so smooth and light that the 11mm one works fine.

yeah, sorry 'bout the mix-up. i was referring to the steel version. the frn is indeed sabre-ground.
