At first glance, I thought the SOG Seal Team was to replace the SOG Seal 2000 but then I had a closer look and couldn't find any differences between Seal Team Elite and the new Seal Team. Is the only difference the black coating?

No worries. I still don't know whether I should get the Seal 2000, while I still can. I'm guessing the Seal Team is made in the same plant as the Seal Team Elite since they are almost the same in design and use the same steel. Can anyone confirm this?

SEAL 2000 is AUS6 while SEAL Team is AUS8. They seem pretty much equal to me. SEAL team has the hammer pommel the SEAL 2000 doesn't and has longer serrations. I don't think either has much of an advantage over the other. BUT SEAL 2000 has more sheath choices. I'd say get whatever is cheaper if you don't have a big issue with the differences.

One seems to have the gray coating with a smooth finish and the other has the black coating with the rasp on the back of the blade. Any other major differences?

the handle of the seal team and seal team elite is more comfortable than of the seal 2000,which is a little too thick in my opinion.

but that's all preferences I guess.
the most important difference, between the seal team and elite, if there is any other, is the spine rasp.

The new Seal Team is almost identical to the Seal Team Elite except for the coating and rasp-back, (btw, they're both AUS-8 Steel) because both are now produced in Taiwan. The new Tigershark 2.0 and Tigershark Elite will follow a similar design scheme (Powder coating vs Black TiNi w/ Rasping).

The only two Seal Knives that don't seem to follow this pattern are the Seal Pup and Seal Pup Elite. (The Elite has a slightly longer handle with different texture and overall shape... Also the Seal Pup is AUS-6 while the Seal Pup Elite is AUS-8)
