I see that some people want strider generation 2, what are the differences? How many gen. Are there?
I just got a sng with the new lock up and it has broken in fabulously. I couldn't be happier.

I am hunting for a smf cc some time soon, just wanted all info regarding strider's before my next purchase.

Thanks in advance

The old generations had a curved lockface that developed play quicker. The newer striders have a flat lock extending the life of your knife and pretty much eliminating any play. The PT model also got a pivot change during the lock change aswell. If you buy second had always ask if its new lockup and for a pic of it to verify that its flat and not curved.

Here is a pic showing the difference in curvature (of blade tang) between the two styles of lockup.
Newer is on the left.

Note there may be instances of severe lockup (cannot close the blade) with EITHER type of lockup. The very WORST case that I saw was with the newest, most costly, production Sng with the digi-blade, which I love. Usually, this may occur when some mall ninja whips open the blade with a savage flick, to impress himself, while he's watching Indiana Jones throw ten nasty Germans off the back of a speeding German half-track. (I've watched the younger folks doing this). Of course, personally, I'm quite reserved. :)

Fortunately, you don't have to pry the lockbar off of the tang with a tool in order to break it loose. Just hold the locked-open knife, upside-down, and carefully use your left hand's fingers to "pull" downward pressure on the blade as though you were trying to open the blade still further. Simultaneously, use your right hand finger(s) to EASILY push the stuck lockbar back to its home position. Simplicity, just like THAT.
This little tidbit of info is courtesy of CRIMSONTIDESHOOTER, and I thank him for the information.

Is there any other differences, or is the lock up and the pivot on the pt the only ones.
Thanks.

You will notice, on newer models, Sng/SMF, that the lockbar cutout is now on the OUTSIDE of the lockbar, easily seen under the pocket-clip. I believe this is intended to decrease the probability of a "failed and folded" lockbar under condition of extreme pressure, or weight, being placed on the blade. (Such as locking the grips into a vise and then hanging increasingly-heavier weights onto the blade, until the lock fails). This change of cutout position, from inside to outside, is now seen on many newer knife models, including Hinderers and ZT's and CRK's, to name a few.

Usually when speaking about Strider and someone's asking about generations it doesn't necessarily refer to lock geometry. For example the difference between a gen 1 and gen 2 SMF is the addition of the Hinderer LBS.

The Strider tang stamps have also changed over time, does anyone have a pic/list of the different stamps?
Also what generation the different stamps belong to?

Thank you for the link blacksheep. This is who I was looking for
