Differences in pre-production and production Benchmades

You know, I'd like to see the same thing.

I like the pre-pro 806SD2 more in some ways than my regular production. Slightly thinner blade, shorter (less carry options), and lighter (liners have oval cut-outs vice round).

Lookin' at that auction, the seller indicates the differences well. Note also, that the washers are phenolic (or whatever), not bronze.

Similiar characteristics can be found on the 805S pre-pro.

I have a late model, and personally, I wish it had a shorter handle. It's like carrying a banna in my pocket, and I don't mean that in a good way!

I own 2 806s (both regular production) and they have a slightly different finish. My older one almost has a little more of a shine to the black where as the new one is more matte. The new one has an extra making below the D2 mark, and although I can't think of the exact name, I'm pretty sure it's benchmade's new black finish. -this might be what you mean. -Also, I think the handle's so long to help extend the reach of the blade- which can be good. But I wish they woulda made one smaller than the reg, but bigger than the mini.

I've owned a few 806's and have noticed there are some with shinier scales, although I'm not sure which version was produced first. They've all come in a black box besides the pre-pro. I agree that the pre-production has a lot of nice qualities to it. I'm so used to my regular 806 that when I first hefted the pre-pro I immediately noticed its lightness. Has anyone ever handled a prototype version of this knife? Are there any differences between it and the pre-production?
