Differences in Tsunami over past few years?

I bought a SOG Tsunami a few years ago, which at the time came with a leather sheath. It was made in Taiwan, I believe. However, it recently came to my attention that the Tsunami now includes a nylon sheath, which is frankly more to my liking for most purposes . . . if any of those purposes call for this type of knife.

Are there any other differences on the current model versus one from around 2012-13?

PMed you.

The oldest Tsunamis had no lower guard, has a serration section on the blade near the handle, and the square box
SOG logo on the blade and no logo in the kraton handle.
These were made in Seki JAPAN with AUS-6 and in a semi polished (satin) finish. Around 2008-2009 they went to Taiwan production with AUS-8, and first had the SOG with the knife cutting a bullet logo, then later the digital looking letters SOG.
Today's Tsunami no longer have a serration on the blade, the guard extends at the bottom (lower) end, come in highly polished finish and black TiNi finish versions. The jimping on the spine seems to have remained unchanged all these decades.

Don't forget the the late 90's/Early 200's Tsunami's with the simple lower guard and Epoxy Powder coating. Mine is from 2003.

Ah yes there was the powder coated model. Does your have the square logo? And if so,
does it have Ed WA under it? Or just the square?

Both my regular and mini with the powder coating have just the square logo.

I've been trying to figure out the approximate year of SOG models. The oldest ones seem to
have the square logo with the Santa Monica CA under it, and/or just on the sheath. SOG, established 1986 moved from CA to WA in 2003 and there are knives with the square logo and EDM WA under it. And again and/or on the sheath. I have been told that a number of knives that were produced during that transition stage had just the square logo with no location under it.
Not sure if that's true or not. I say this because there are SOG knives out there that have the square logo only on the blade, but LYNWOOD WA written under the letters SOG on the sheath. This would suggest that the "Box only" was the last of this type of logo, before going to the bullet cutter.

Ah yes. The old "What year...; when did..." questions related to SOG Knives.

As for as the SOG "box" logo, I have the old SOG Team Leader folder knife without the box logo which only has "SOG Specialties" embossed on the left side of the blade. This same engraving was on the 5th Special Forces bowie knife, too. I think these two knives are among the oldest SOG blades.

True, SOG was established in 1986, but I have seen catalogs with a copyright date of 1999 which contains the the SOG mailing address for Lynnwood, WA. So I tend to believe that SOG moved to WA several years prior to 2003. Also, I have seen older SOG catalogs, but I can not confirm the dates because the copyright is missing.

Does anyone have SOG knife or tool with a box logo with "Lynnwood, WA" engraved below it?

Regards,

It is very hard to get dates on Some of these knives. For example, my midnight tigershark says S.M.C.A on it when it should say Washington and was in fact only available for purchase after their move to Washington. The explanation is the blade was old stock.
