Differences ZT 0300/0350 and Kershaw Blur

I see a lot of positive messages on this from about Zero Tolerance knives. I own a Kershaw Blur, which I really like. It’s got a blade from great steel (S30V) with plenty of belly and a nice recurve, assisted opening (speed safe), and zero blade play.

I have never had a ZT knife in my hands. Can anyone tell me whether the ZT 0350 (little smaller blade) or the ZT 0300 (little larger blade) in S30V offer any advantages over the Blur? Particularly since Kershaw and Ken Onion are also involved in ZT.

0300:
Flipper
10% larger than the 0350
Ti frame locl
G10 opn opposing side
Speedsafe assist
Only S30V has been used so far

0350:
Flipper
10% smaller than the 0300
SS liner lock
G10 scales
Speedsafe assist
primarily S30V, including ZDP blade, ZDP composite, Elmax composite

Blur:
No flipper
Anodized aluminum handles
Various blade steels have been used including composite blades
Speed assist
Liner lock attached to the aluminum

All 3 have recurve blades, the Blur is a Kershaw, the other 2 are part of the ZT lineup. Advantages and disadvantages are all based on individual use and can vary wildly by area, use, and legal requirements. For more information click here.

My main EDC is the Blur and it is my favorite knife. I have a 0301 (basically a 0300 but different color scheme) and a 0350ZDPCB. RevDevil has a good list there.

The 0305 is similar size to the blur, length is the same, thickness is the same, but its a bit wider, and it has something important that the Blur lacks, a flipper. I like the clip a bit better on the ZT's too. The ZT's blade is a bit more robust, the Blur blade stabs through things easier, like heavy black plastic. Both have great grab to the grip. The lock on the ZT is bigger than the one on the blur.

The 0301 has can be carried tip up or down, left or right handed. It is a big knife and feels like it, I like big knifes so I like the 0301. I like the striped blade and the look of the knife, I havent been able to carry it much, but it also has the flipper which I like. It doesnt open as fast or strong as the Blur does. The Ti frame lock is going to be very strong. I've watched some of the torture test videos on this knife and it is really tough.

If you wanted to hear more of what people like about carrying one vs. the other. RedDevil covered most of the info pretty well

OK. Should I ask this question again at the Kershaw forum? (Didn't realize it existed.)
Why would you want to post the same question twice? What more is it that you want to know? If you ask a specific question, you might get a more specific answer. All the specs including weight, over all length, width, etc are all on the web. They are available on any online knife store or on the KAI site. I'd say based on your post, you have the answer to your initial question.

Sure, Reddevil gave the specs :) But I'm interested in what that means in everyday use. E.g., do you use a ZT 0300 differently because it has a frame lock? And why are the ZT knives heavier? That gives an impression of being solid, but I am not sure why. (At least, more solid than a blur, the frame lock/liner lock difference left aside.)

As I said in my initial reply, advantages are up to the individual. Ask 100 people get 100 different answers. No one here can guess what you will like or dislike, or guess what is legal or illegal in your area.
Not everyone likes liner locks,
Not every one can carry a locking knife
Not everyone likes Titanium or Aluminum handles
There are people that cannot have an assisted opening knife, because the law in their area prohibits it.
Some folks don't like sharpening S30V or cant.
Other people dislike recurves or coated blades
There have been a few people that freak out because a knife weights 5 ounces.

ZT knives are thick, beefy knives. I suspect the pivot, lock, liners, and blade are all thicker than on the Blur. It's a knife you buy because it's overbuilt. You're not going to get better cutting performance most likely. What makes ZT different is that they're more durable. If you're looking for an EDC that's built like a tank, they're worth a look.

RedDevil speaks the truth again, I have read a lot of "should I carry this or..." post, lots of opinions, in the end the information I see as useful from this is if a person posting likes knives you tend to like so they have similar tastes and give their opinion more weight.

I own the 3 knives you want to compare, I carry the Blur most. But mainly because it is cheaper than my ZT's and my ZT's are still pretty new. Also, I sharpen the blur on a paper wheel, I dont have much practice and wouldnt dare do that to my ZT's... yet.

Thanks Bobsig, the pictures clarify a lot. Am I correct in saying the differences are mainly in size? Not only blade length but also blade width and thickness, and pivot thickness and liner thickness (although I cannot see that last two ones in the pictures).

Youre welcome. Ya you can say that, ZT's are pretty thick. You can see the liner locks in the bottom pic, on the blur it is the silver piece under the left thumb stud, and the 0350, you can see the indent on the liner lock on the left where it begins.
