Different Blade Grinds On the 0200 and 0300's?

Hi Everyone,

I just got the 0200 and the 0301 (Couldn't decide which to get so got both). :D From the pictures I've seen I've noticed that the 0200 seems to have two types of blade grinds for it's top swedge and the the 0301 has 3 different grinds for the top swedge:

0200
Earlier Versions in ads - Full swedge so blade is a saber, ground blade.
Later Versions - Scalloped swedge so blade is more of a drop point.

0300
Earlier Versions in ads and TAD versions - "Battle Swedge" with two variants (Swedge ground 2/3rds up and swedge ground all the way to thumbstud).
Later Versions - Scalloped swedge so blade is more of a drop point.

So I am wondering if these grinds give the blade different performance characteristics in terms of piercing or tip-strength? Also, just curious why the grinds were switched?

Maybe Tim got tired grinding all those battle swedges by hand and decided to switch it up a bit?

;)

You'll notice that the thumbstud in the top picture is flat with a criss-cross texture as opposed to stainless and terraced in the bottom photo...

I'm not sure the knives were ever released this way...the 030X series is also pictured this way with the flat textured thumbstuds on some sites, but every one I've ever seen photographed after sale has the terraced stainless thumbstuds (as do the ones I own). The same with the 0200s...

Now throw the different grinds into the mix along with the different thumbstuds and it really starts to get confusing...all the 0200s I've seen appear to be ground like in the second photo, but it's hard to tell...I only have 0300s myself.

I suspect some of these variations never made it into production, but it would be nice to know which variations are actually obtainable.

Thomas has explained this before. The first pic is definitely a composite prototype picture. Sometimes they have an image deadline, and need to put production prototype pictures up. I've seen those same thumbstuds on many knives that were never produced with them.

Thanks for the info...that clears up the thumbstud question...I thought I had read every post in these forums relating to the ZT line, but guess I missed some.

That still leaves a number of grind possibilities...

By the way, I would think that this is only a point of interest to Kershaw fans, and not an issue with any emotional context, at least not for me...

I have the swedged version much like the "prototype", likely an earlier version, so, there must be at least two versions out there which where readily available at some point.
