Different Buck sheaths

I thought I'd start a thread to show the more unusual sheaths made by Buck. This is one I suspect not everyone has seen. It's made to carry a 110 in the horizontal position on your belt.

Does anyone else have any "different" Buck produced sheaths?

I don't know how many were made. I remember seeing them in one of the catalogs but I'll have to go back and see what years it was offered. If I remember right, it was a sheath that you could order and I don't know if it ever came standard with the 110.

Here's another one that's a little different. This one appears to have been produced for Harly Davidson. It's a bit too short for a 110 but it fits a 112, 422 and 442 pretty well. It has a second, shallower pouch in front of the main pouch. I have no idea what knives were supposed to go in this one.

Those horizontal sheaths are very rare indeed, they stopped making them as the leather tended to curl up and snag on anything they came into contact with, thus opening the sheath. They also marred the bolsters all up,as there were no felt stickers put on the bottom silver rivets at fold over points in the bottom of the sheath.I still have a couple,i got them on a phone order for a couple petes customs, the lady at the time(Sara Buck)asked me if i'd like a horizontal sheath,i didn't even know what they looked like, and said yes i would.LOL.The sheaths are made of nice thick leather, and very well built ,i will say that .

Dave, your sheath looks like a Selector sheath but round on the bottom... Here's one something like it... But the knife is the same size as a 110, but not as thick, I think... Hell who know... Not me... ITE

Here's one for a 110. Similar to the 531/535 sheath.

That design is my favorite of all the sheaths that were furnished with 110's etc. I also have them in various different shade's for the 531, 532, 535, 112 and 500. They also made them in fabric which I like also.

(Please excuse the dog hair all over the sheaths. I didn't notice it until I was about to post )

Here's some other leather sheaths. The two on the left are nearly the same, just the flap stamp difference and the color. I also have the same sheath in black, but they are in the boxes with their knives and I just don't know which boxes they are.

These are fantastic sheaths . Dave, I like your fold over type and the first photo you posted of the glasses case sheath, it is rare . HK, I like yours too, I have one of those . Ima, You've got a Lady Buck--great .

The fold over flap is a nice sheath!I am a lefty, but they work great worn backwards ,they tend to never snag on anything ,while hunting here we sometimes are on hands and knees tracking bears, and one would think something like that wouldn't even be noticable, ohhh but it is my friends.LOL.My all time favorite is the old low rider sheaths that came with the old 2 dots era knives,a 110 is so easy to get at with gloves on ,and very easy to put away quick too,I love them.

I agree. I like the position of the belt loop on the older sheaths the best of that style sheath. I still like the fold overs the best though. Please forgive the fuzzy picture. It's raining here again and I've lost the light for taking good pictures.

Longbow and Early, You guys have some nice sheaths . I didn't know Buck made all those. I'm glad we have threads like this because a lot of this stuff I never see . DM

Interesting comparison of the 'low rider' sheath vs the current style.

I have two 110's, both recent production (2009 and 2010). One came with the nylon sheath, one with the black leather. For me, the nylon sheath is much easier to carry. I don't even notice it on my belt, even when sitting in a vehicle for a long period. The leather is classier, but the nylon sure wins in the comfort department.

They both ride about the same height, but the nylon 'hugs' the knife better. The foldover flat just fits tighter and doesn't protrude as much.

If you haven't tried a nylon sheath, I recommend it. Maybe pick up a Paperstone 110 that comes with nylon?

Ilike your pictures Plumberdv, looking at the belt loop on the older low rider, its also wider, and that keeps it from flopping around on your side ,compared to the other sheath pictured, when those get broken in,they tend to flop all around, the new nylon sheaths do carry nice,i just love leather, and the smell of leather.lol.If you plan on using a old low rider sheath to carry your 110,make sure to treat the leather with some conditioner and waterprooof sno seal, that will keep it from splitting,as sometimes just sitting there thety dry out.I had a brand new old stock sheath basically crack apart after a weeks carry, the leather would rip like a piece of cardboard.

Although I dont have one, I really like those older Alaskan Guide logo sheaths with the brown-ish 'distressed leather'. Anyone have one of those?

jb4570,

BINGO !! That bottom combo is my "dream" BuckKnife sheath/knife setup. Looks like that one was made in 2004. Im keeping an eye out on the big auction site for a similar set up of my own:D
