Different idea for a sheath

A recent post got me to thinking about the standard khukuri sheath. With the karda and chakma, it gets very big at the top end of the scabbard. What might be a very nice idea, I think, would be to mount the karda and chakma on the front of the sheath, one above the other, much like the traditional placement of knife and fork on a Scottish dirk's sheath. Here's a pretty good photo -- the one on the right:

This would probably be more work for the sarki, but I think it would make for a very distinctive and useful package.

Actually, I like the karda and chakma behind the main handle where it is. Since in September I was mobilized, I took a 15" villager with me and carried it when patrolling the waterfront. That handle would dig h*ll out of my back if it wasn't being pushed out at a shallow angle by the two tools and the sheath. If the two tools were mounted in front of the sheath they would tend to snag and tumble out. Not to defend tradition for its own sake; but with a utility knife there is generally a very good reason things are the way they are.

Having said that, Russ, the forumites here have suggested and seen zillions of changes, new models, specialty items. I for one love watching ideas come to fruition, even if I can't buy the stuff... just don't get discouraged from coming up with an innovation.

best wishes

Stephen
