On the eve of the birth of my second daughter, I write this. My wife "nests" by cleaning the house, etc., etc. I "nest" by conjurring up near-doomsday scenarios and trying to figure how to deal with them.
I have assembled a VERY rudimentary BOB for the car to be used in the event of mechanical breakdown when I am not immediately available. The kit in the car will hopefully serve to make my wife and children a bit safer and more comfortable until the cavalry (family/friends) arrives. In a post almost two years old, Plainsman mentioned his bag gets him TO the house, not away from it. I tend to think along the same lines.
Living in hurricane country, I also need a 10-day kit for a family of four plus a dog that I can pitch in the car and haul a$$ if needed.
The question is this, I do not forsee running AWAY from things as much as I envision running TO something, house or family. Given an L.A. riot situation, I am probably looking at getting family and then maybe me coming back (not too sure about this last one).
Any sugestions other than the obvious about what should be included? I hit Doug Ritter's site at www.equipped.org which had a ton of info, but some of his suggestions are almost too comprehensive (too much stuff to tote). Any thoughts appreciated.
