With all of the technology, and the endless amounts of different knife steels out there, can you really pick 'one' that stands on top of the others? Lets say you needed a knife that had to last a week without sharpening (the knife would be used for bushcraft/general purpose camping)? Could you point to one type of steel that takes the prize?

And if you want to talk about the best type of grind go ahead (as in best grind for the outdoors)........ we all know the saying about the geometry......... I hope.

This is personal preference. I prefer 1095 Cro Van. Most of my blades are made from this & i have had absolutely no issues. East to sharpen. But who goes camping without a sharpener ? Not me. They are so small & compact these days, there is really no good reason to not have a sharpener with you. I have blades made from 1055, 1075, 1085 steel. No issues with any of them & no issues with rust either. Fluid Film is your friend. Google it. Learn about it. It is magic in a can.

There is no single best steel. There are different steels that perform better in different categories. I know 3V has been getting a good rep for outdoor use. I have personally not had a chance to use it yet. Others will be along shortly to help you with a choice :).

I think if you asked 10 different people you'd get ten different "best" steels. From my experience you just have to do some research and line up your Edc needs and just field test some blades. Everyone has their favorite and it all came from carrying and using. There's not really a one answer for this.

The best grind is a V grind, obviously

M4. Tough and holds an edge like a mofo.
