Different Lanyard Options

I just took off the shoelace lanyard I had on my mini-grip because it started to attract lint and looked grungy.

I don't always like to order over the internet especially if it is something as cheap as paracord, but I just went through some beading equipment and found a few yards of leather and about 15 yards of thin hemp in a spool.

Do either of these materials fare well for lanyards or fobs? I feel like if you tie up the hemp enough it wont fray and I have seen some bushcraft knives with leather lanyards.

What do you all think? Anyone done it? Anyone have pics?

I think I may go ahead and try it but not if it's a fruitless effort.

550 paracord here or leather thong.

Paracord is dual purpose its an easy way to carry several feet (if ever needed) when braided into a knife lanyard ,zipper pull, fob,or a Boonie hat band.

if your desire is just decoration let your imagination be your guide4.

Paracord is amazing. Buy enough to make the shipping worthwhile.

Just do it. You won't regret it.

Amazon.com of all places has good prices on the "G.I. Plus" stuff.

Make your lanyards. Make bracelets. Replace your boot laces with it. Cord wrap your tool and knife handles. Toss a hank of it in your car truck, another in your pack. Give some to your friends. Use the (50 pound test) inside strands to stitch up rips in heavy fabric.

Once you get your hands on it you will think up a couple dozen more things and wish you had bought more.

I make my lanyards from just about anything around the house. I've never lost/dropped a knife with a lanyard yet. What more could I want?

Someone here has to be into lanyards! haha

Josh K is the one you should talk to, he knows a thing or two about lanyards ;)

I might. :)

You can turn just about anything into a lanyard. I've had excellent results with 550 (para) cord, climbing rope, utility rope, hemp twine, leather string, even 1" webbing.

If this is a "make it last" thing I would suggest not using either of those. The hemp is notoriously uneven and also very susceptible to moisture, dirt, sunlight, etc.

You've got an email. ;) How about you send me an email? :)

I'm not sure if you have a local army surplus store, but the one near my house sells paracord, either by the foot, of in 300ft spools. I paid 12$ for 300ft of OD green, it is very handy to have around the house as well as for lanyards/fobs.

I like leather as does not look dirty and frayed as it gets older it becomes smoother and takes on a shiny broken in look. I like para cord but I feel like it get old looking too fast. I have used hemp cord also it works well and stays looking nice for a while and you can wave a lighter over it here and there to burn off frayed spots ,it helps to wax the hemp .The hemp I used was thin and smooth and I braided it into a thicker cord for lanyard tying.

How about leather lanyards? Anyone knows who sells nice leather lanyards? Thank you.
