Different Opinions on the Benchmade 670 Apparition?:

I just ordered the Benchmade 670 apparition. I ordered it because it just looked like such a beautiful knife :o , and I've wanted it for such a long time. I did some searching throughout the forums and opinions on the 670 seem to be very broad. Some people people seem to love it, others seem to not love it. A lot of them are saying that it opens with a very fast and solid action. So fast in fact, that it almost wants to fly out of your hand. Others have said that it has one of the slowest Assisted Opening actions they have ever seen. Finally, I have heard that the liner lock is a very beefy and solid lock on this knife, whereas someone else referred to the linerlock as "paper thin".

So...if anybody has handled one of these knives, I would truly appreciate your input on this very contradicting matter.
Thank you.:)

Its a great knife, very fast and very strong. Don't listen to the tick worshipers, it doesn't smell good where their head is.

I have one of the originals , action is very positive . I think it is one of the best of the assisted openers . Unlike the others , it is easy to convert it back to manual if desired - not all juristictions are assisted opener friendly . I think you will be happy with it .

I've got 2. I love them both. I like the blade style, and it's sharper than heck. The action is very smooth. It fits my plam perfectly. My liner lock is just fine and it moves to the center of the blade, so I know its positive locking.

But it is slow. Most of my other AO's are faster, the SOG TwitchII is about the same. My autos are faster. But does that keep me from using it? Or keep me from liking it? Nope. It's a great knife.

I think you'll like your knife. Don't worry about.

I have the full G-10 version while my g/f EDC's the classic. I dont carry mine much but I like the knife and its nice. My g/f loves hers for the heft, feel and overall look. After carrying and using both I like the classic a bit more than the full G-10 version: I just like the heft of it. Both have good spring tension and the liner locks, lock up just about perfect.

Fit and finish is excellent. It is plenty fast and very smooth. The 672-G10, D2, hollow grind model is amazing in design and is faster than the traditional...if you can, I would consider the G10 model.

I've played with the new and old ones before, but I'm not sure if I'm remembering correctly...it seemed to me that the lockbar was very small for a knife of that size...but I'm not sure that I'm correct...anyone want to clear this up with some photos for me?

I have the G10 672. Speed can be varied by adjusting the tension of the pivot screw, but I took the AO bar out and use it as a manual.

Very smooth, solid lock-up. Great knife.

I have the original, and while I generally edc other knives, I think it is a great knife. AO speed seems good to be. Its not like a Dalton auto or anything, but few knives are. I think a little bit of tinkering and making sure the torsion bar is installed nice and straight may make a difference in the speed of the AO.

Liner lock is a little thin, but the lockup is solid. Fit and Finish are both very good.

I like the fact that it can easily be converted from auto to manual.

Heres a pic I've found of the liner lock.
It's not my pic...I found it via google

Dang....I mean, I'm not a big subscriber to the idea that liner locks have to be massive or are useless thinking, but..man...that's pretty scary....I really like the new D2 version too....but I just don't think I could feel comfortable with that.

I'll post some better pics that I'll take myself when it arrives.

A higher quality photo that isn't out of focus should make things easier to see.
