Different Orange Peels

On my ESEE-4, the orange G-10 has a rougher texture than on all the other ones I have in stock. I actually really like it. I was wondering if it was a fluke or deliberate or just a different material vendor or batch. It was not until I got TexasTonyDobbs RAT Pack knife in the mail today, that I saw that mysterious G-10 again. So, here are the two handles.

This is what is on all my ESEE-3 OD's and ESEE-4 OD's

This is what is on my new RAT Pack from TTD and, similar to what is on my user ESEE-4 OD

There is a serious difference. The color is basically identical.

Any ideas?

I had read a couple times on this forum that the G10 scales on ESEE/RAT knives were

not as grippy as the micarta. I have also read that they were more grippy than the

micarta. When I received my RatPack-3 I was very impressed with the texture of the

G10. I don't own any other ESEE/RATS with G10 so I couldn't directly compare.

It seems though, that all of what I read was correct and some of its got more texture

than others!

my RP knife is very grippy - like the one you got from TTD.
my od esee4 has almost glass smooth G10 - I'm trying to come up with a good way to texture it without ruining my lungs.
