I've got just enough knowledge to get myself in trouble...
In the pictures below the 2 axes have very different shapes in the area between the front of the eye and the bit. I realize that is because one has a much more hollow grind in the area of the "cheeks" for lack of a better word. My question is, is that an indicator of quality of workmanship or rather the intended purpose. I would think that for splitting the more wedge shaped would be preferable and maybe the finer one is more for felling?
The fine one is marked (probably Han)d Forged and the other is unmarked. I can't stop picking them up if I see one for $5.
