I was saundering around the Home Depot when I saw something in tool section. A Ridgit Oscillating Edge Belt/Sander. Made in USA and lifetime warranty. Made by Emerson Electric out of St. Louis. I do believe I may buy one as it would definitely replace some well worn belt grinders due for replacement. Takes a 4x24" belt and a variety of tube oscillating sanders. Try this: http://www.ridgid.com/index3.html

I do believe I may buy one--What do you think?--Dan

I have the Delta model, and it has ONLY the tubes.

Terry McMaster [Blind Dog Knives] got the Rigid model and just loves it. Were I to buy one now the Rigid would be my choice.

Please let us know how it works out for you.

The amazing part is they have an induction motor, made in USA, lifetime warranty, and you can buy them through Home Depot for $239.00. Check out the Ridgid website on the original post and they have the owners manual on line for this equipment. I'm off to buy one!-between the 4x24 belt and the oscillating tube sanders, most of the hogging out is complete even if you figure finger grooves!--Dan

I have beenuseing the sanding tubes on a band sander abor on my foredom flex shaft drill for years, works great on handle sculpting.

I decided to take my own advice and bought the Ridgid oscillating belt sander. I took it home last night and it was up and running inside twenty minutes. What normally took me about a week to file/grind a blade profile took me about 2 hours last night. The performance of this oscillating belt sander was very acceptable. Obviously the key to any belt grinder is the grit of the belt. Using 36 and 50 grit made short work of the excess. The ease of use was worth the purchase. Here's another evaluation: http://www.wwforum.com/faqs_articles/EB4424.html

I was operating with an older 1x42 belt grinder that had a replacement contact wheel from a skateboard (by the way this works fine). This new piece of equipment will take a load off of that grinder.--Dan
