Hello there :-)

I have a dumb (but very important for me) question that requieres your knowledge ;-)

I need to know wich one of this blades is the one that's coated to prevent the light to reflect on the blade

satin finish or stone washed???

other thing, what is exactly a Hawkbill blade?

THANK YOU very much ;-)

Well.. I suppose you're better off posting this blade section, but heck.. I can answer here too :D

I have a dumb (but very important for me) question that requieres your knowledge ;-)

No questions are dumb.. they can only get dumb answers. And our knowledge... well if it's about knives I suppose we can help ya, but most of us are here for the FUN :D

I need to know wich one of this blades is the one that's coated to prevent the light to reflect on the blade
satin finish or stone washed???

Well.. neither. Both types of finishes you mention are put on bare steel... no coatings involved. If you ask me, beadblast is the most reflection preventive, but stonewash is better for corrosion resistance and looks.

What you might be trying to ask is which was the aopeen coating by microtech.. I dunno if the ever did it to a vector, but that was a clear coating which looked like a beadblast.

other thing, what is exactly a Hawkbill blade?

A hawk bill blade is a blade shaped like a a spyderco Merlin or Microtech Kestrel for example. In general something is said to be a hawkbill when the cutting edge is a flowing line which curves inward to the blade. Kinda like a recurve without the re :D very utility minded and very underestimated in knives in my opinion.

THANK YOU very much ;-)

anytime.. if you want more answers, mail me freely or post again.

Greetz and take care, bart.

Oh, ok, I was under the impresion that one of the two options I mentioned was actually a beadblast coating :-)
I have a MOD with this finish and I LOVE it for the looks, but its high mantainance to prevent the blade to get lil pieces of rust on it, so I guess I'll try to go with the stonewash then :-)

thank you (very nice explanation on the HK blade)

bye!

Just FYI, Microtech does offer a black coating on their blades in addition to these finishes.

satin finish or stone washed will not reflect the light.

I like the black coated best (knives belong to member Nick)

Hawkbills are shaped like the beak of a hawk.

Microteck hawkbill blades.

Hmm, that is very interesting. Can't say you are wrong, as I have never fondled a MT satin blade up close. How is it still satin exactly if it is not shiney? I am very curious now!

satin finish may not be able to mirror light, but it will reflect in a dark situation where you need to draw 'undercover'

But.. a beadblast will be less reflective, a satin is next and stonewash will reflect most.

But speaking in terms of reflections.. coated ones reflect 10 X less.

And it totally depends on what you see as satin finish... I can scotchbrite a 60 G finish and name it satin, that will reflect less. But you can also do a 800 G finish and scotchbrite that, now that willbe a very fine and reflective finish.

I know the Microtech hawk and kestrel are hawkbills ... but I tought the vector was a special design.. it isn't a true hawkbill IMHO.

HI again, thanx for you time :-)

I've ALWAYS wanted a Vector, but was too expensive at that time, now I can afford one (it would be THREE great knives instead of just one if my damn goverment wouldn't devaluated our currency *crying*) and I want it to be PERFECT, cos I know myself, and if I end up with a MT Vector with a blade that i don't like I will be "forced" to get a new one, if you know what I mean ;-)

So, let's see if I understood correctly:

Satin finish would be (in matters of reflecting light), somewhere between a plain blade like a BM Stryker and a beadblasted blade, right?

something like: "normal" - Satin - Stonewash - Beadblast - Black

Is the Chromium Nitride (Silver) Blade Coating the same as Satin Finish? Everytime I start visiting links and investigate a little I came up with more different terms, and I have to rely on the pics I see on the Internet, since there's no MTs here around in stores.

I don't need to draw it undercover or anything so the blade choice is a matter of likes (and I don't like the black one, with the exception of some fixed blades). I'd like matte blades instead of the "normal" shinny ones in this types of knives, so even a lil "anti-reflection" treatment will do it.

any of you have a CLOSE UP pic of this 2 treatments? Not the pics some company took, but yourselves or some friend of their own knives?

bye! :-)
