differential tempers

The Waki is the most recent differentially hardened blade that I can think of. Considering even the recent big blades like the Rodent 9 and Rucki were through tempered I would have to agree with eloreno that it seems they decided to move in a different direction, whether it's for cost or because they decided it's not necessary.

Supposedly not brother. Some people don't mind this fact...but if I could choose, I would without a doubt choose the differential heat treat. It has been claimed that through hardening a blade saves us (the consumer) a few bucks, but I would rather pay an extra 20 to 50 bucks a knife to know that it is closer to indestructibility!

I think the swamp is done with differentially tempered blades. I really wish they would bring back the DT heat treat. I know that performance wise its almost impossible to tell the differences but when it comes to aesthetics and "trust" in your tools the DHT is much more desirable.
My favorite part of owning a Rat used to be beating the coating away and then polishing it up to reveal a beautiful Hamon. Im doing it on a M6 right now and it makes me kind of sad that the newer knives from the swamp no longer have hamon's or decent finishes under the coating.
I know its cheaper and faster for the swamp to do through hardening but If they offered a DHT option on their blades for an extra cost I think almost all of us who are hard core swamp supporters would choose the DHT even if it were 20 or more dollars extra.
