Hey guys, i'm not a knifemaker, but I was wondering if any of you have ever tried selective hardening on a large knife(bowie) made of CPM 3V? Is it possible? If you have tried it, do you think it would be more impact and shock resistant than selectively hardened carbon steels (say 1084 or 5160)?
Also, has anyone tried forging it? I'm just curious to see if it would work well. I like carbon steel on large blades, but I was thinking that CPM 3V could possibly be used to increase rust- resistence and possibly shock resistance. The down side of course to using it is cost.
Any opinions appreciated
TIA, David.
