Differing Lock Release Pressure

Hello All,

I just purchased a large Micarta Insingo off the exchange and I am very happy with it. But, my Insingo has made me notice something... just how much harder my Umnumzaan is to unlock! Disengaging the lock on my Insingo takes maybe 25% the force needed to disengage the lock back on my Umnumzaan, and that got me wondering, is this normal?

I love both Umnumzaan and my Insingo. In fact, my Umnumzaan is the only folder I have ever owned that has made me think 'maybe I don't need any other knives'. But, owning an Insingo has me wishing that my Umnumzaan's lock bar disengaged a little easier.

Here they are:

Thanks in advance for your answers.

I thought mine was hard when I first got it. Now I do not even notice it now. I am sure hapasnyper is correct and I know from my other CRk's it is probably harder but really does not take much but getting used to it. Others have come and gone but the Zaan is here to stay!

I have had my Umnumzaan for 3 years and it has never become easier. Don't get me wrong I love my Umnumzaan and it was, and is, my Grail folder. But, getting my Insingo has me wishing that my Umnumzaan was: 1) as easy to release, and 2) as smooth as the Insingo.

I think it's due to the shape of the Unumzaan lock bar and the lack of the finger groove. These things combined equal less finger on the lock bar when pushing on it. Mine also seemed to be harder to open than my sebenzas and even left my finger sore from playing with it when I first got it.

Like others have said, I too believe it has to do with the shape of the lock bar. I have both the old style Umnumzaan like yours and the newer style with the larger thumb area on the lock bar. The newer style is a lot easier to release but then again it is more broken in than the older one is.
