Hello all

Just got my domino in the mail yesterday from a gent on here. I love the knife, but noticed it's a bit hard to flip, compared to how my southard was out of the box. The action is smooth, just stiff. I tried loosening the pivot screw just a touch, and it flipped better but had some side to side play. Is this something that will wear in with some time and some good grease, or do I have a problem?

Sounds like something may be wrong. I'm not a Domino fan, but my Domino flips better than any of my Southards, and doesn't have any noticeable bladeplay either.

Mine has never been stiff. My Domino's detent ball to blade tang contact is not the smoothest and makes a scratch noise sometimes, but it has always flied open. You may want to play with the screws and the relative depth of each. I have noticed that it can be a bit tricky to get a nice smooth action with the blade being centered. It does need to be fairly tight to get a nice action, and is actually (as my understanding) supposed to be able to be tightened really tight while allowing the blade to still freely open and close. That is an attribute of the bearings and pivot style vs. a standard wahser pivot where you can tighten it down to the point of locking the blade pretty much.

Mine has always flipped beautifully. Maybe something stuck in detent or bearings? Rinsing out or lubing may work. If your pivot adjustment messed with the blade, I wouldn't go that route. Just don't take it apart. Try a few basic things and send it in to Spyderco or back to wherever you purchased from if it doesn't work itself out.

I believe it may be gunked, or need some good grease. I'm going to take it apart and clean and grease everything tonight to see if that helps.

Hi Nathan,
Aside from being admired and flipped a few times that Domino is strait out of the box.
I actually thought it flipped better than my Southard and was sad to see it go.
Let me know how the surgery goes.

Hey bud, It wasn't your fault, totally mine! I cut up an apple earlier today, and apparently didn't clean the knife out well enough. I feel like such an idiot now! She flips like a dream!

Thats probably the culprit, my late domino was the best flipper knife i have ever handled so....

I'm really happy you worked it out and I'm glad you like it. You had me puzzled as it fired right open for me.
I think I am going to stick to my fixed blades. There are too many moving parts and ways for things to go wrong with folders. Plus folder people can be so finicky:D

Watch it! :p

Glad it worked out and was a simple solution though. Enjoy your Domino!

I recently picked up a Domino and it is now my favorite knife at the moment.
The knife flips great but whenever I go to open it, I have a habit of flicking my wrist anyways so it always has some initial momentum.

Good to hear problem solved. My Domino was stiff when I first got it but like many new knives, it took some time for the knife to wake up from its factory sleep. Now it's a pleasure to play with.
