Difficulty opening Blur

What's up knife people!? First post from a new member. I have a new Blur and am finding it difficult to deploy. The jumping on the thumb studs is very aggressive and I am tearing up my thumb opening the knife. There is very little margin for adjustment. I have several other assisted openers (Benchmades, Gerbers, CRKT...) and none are as difficult to deploy. I love the knife otherwise. Will the knife "break in?" Any suggestions?

Cheers- HappyDaddy

Welcome to this crazy forum. If you are not a total knife nut now, you will be soon.

I seem to remember that the Blur may have been uncomfortable to open when I first got my first one. I now have three. But that was over a year ago. Do you have some wet/dry sandpaper? If so, I would just put a piece of paper between your thumb and the stud. Grit is up to you. Hold the blade closed and run it across the stud until it becomes comfortable. Or, if your like me, just let your thumb get used to opening it.

Is there anything that's physically causing an issue or just the thumb studs being to agressive? I don't have one anymore, gave it away in a pay it forward, but my blur was one of the strongest assisted opening knives I've ever played with so if the blade isn't coming out smoothly there is a problem, or is it just the detent being a little strong mixed with the agressive jimpin (on the stud) making it uncomfy?

If its just the stud you'll get use to it, plus it will break in a little, you could always file/grind/sand down the stud's corners a little too. On the topic of opening I waved my old Blur so it opened automatically when drawn, I posted pictures of it if you want to check it out just search my name, the notched wave really worked well the blur and looked good astetically too.

Push the thumb stud more or less parallel to the handle, not perpendicular to the handle like you might think. I bet that will help. Rock on.

Thanks folks. I think my issue is a combination of a pretty strong detent and the jimping on the studs, as CK suggested. I'm guessing it'll loosen up over time - and my technique will improve.
Got a ZT 350 with the blackwashed blade today - digging the flipper after fighting with the Blur!:) Thanks again.

Sounds like you got a good haul for Christmas.
You could alway try de-assisting the knife by removing the torsion bar. That might relieve some of the pressure it takes to open it. The strong detent on yours may actually be a good thing if you decide to turn it into a manual folder. I much prefer my Blur without the assist.

I just received a blur for Christmas. (what a sweet wife)
Trying to open by moving the thumbstud perpendicular to the handle is difficult and is kind of rough on the thumb.
Pushing in the direction of the jimping on the thumbstud, which is a more upward movement, and my blade opens easily and does not hurt my thumb at all.
Hope this helps.
Merry Christmas

Take the Torsion bar out! I loved my blur and yes it does take time to break in but without the torsion bar, these knives are so SMOOTH!, you won't be disappointed and it makes it much easier to deploy, Merry Christmas!!!!

+1 can confirm, deassisted Blurs are sweet. They open just as fast and consistently, just with less initial effort.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to give it a little time as is. If it remains an issue (even if it's my fault!) I'll remove the torsion bar. I'm used to Spydie holes (and the SpeedSafe doesn't deploy as easily as my BM Mini-Barrage) so it's probably "user error." :)

I like the Blur with AO but I really love the Blur with the torsion bar removed.
It is super smooth and easy to flip out.
You should give it a try after you get a feel for the AO.
Only takes a few minutes to remove or install.
