Gents: both my Kershaw Vapor II and Black Storm will not open with their crummy thumb studs. I called Kershaw and they admitted to this. The Storm thank GOD has a flipper so I can open it. I returned the Vapor back to them for them to try to fix. I tried loosing the blade screw but then there was much blade play.
I have a Junkyard Dog II that has a flipper so it opens well. Can I buy a Cyclone or a Blur and not have shredded thumbs and extreme difficulty in opening? :jerkit:

Sure you can. As long as you quit using the jerk-it smilie in the General Forum.

Sorry you're having trouble with your others, they'll fix you up with those I'm sure.

They are a little tight when new. A little lube and some use makes them work like a dream though.

This problem has popped up here a few times with the Vapor II, so it's a pretty normal issue with this knife. The Vapor II gave me a problem when I bought it, the thumb stud was jagged and I had to return it, the one I was returned was too tight to open one handed, even two handed it was tough. I found that it was because the ball on the lock was too aggressive, so I ground it off with a dremel, it has nothing holding the blade in place now but I can use it and have never had it open accidentally without it. Most of Kershaw's products are very well made and I've never had any issues with any of the dozen or so others that I have. However, this one is not their best work; after I worked on it, it's performed well, despite not having a ball detent anymore.

I've had absolutely no problems opening my Cyclone and my Blur. If mine are any indication, you won't be disappointed with their opening.
