I've was unemployed for a year and a half(Michigan:rolleyes:)and had to put my knife buying on hold for a while, even had to get rid of some of my favs just to keep the lights on and my belly full.

Anyway, I found work awhile back and decided I should treat myself to a new sypderco. Needless to say a lot new models came out during my recess and picking one out was damn hard and damn fun.:D

Frn Strech, Manix 2, Spyderhawk, Bob Lum Chinese, Urban, Sage RIL, so many choices and only cash for one. I poured over all these great designs for what seemed forever. One design really caught my eye and that was the Bob T Slip-it. The last Spyder I bought before losing my job(house, car, sanity)was the Sage 1, so I knew our friends making Spydies in taiwan made great knives. I love twill carbon fiber, S30V, tip-up carry, Wharnies, and the price was right.

My only hesitation was the lack of a locking system. I only have one other non-locking Spydie, the T-Mag, and it closes way to easy for my liking. Just placing my thumb on the ramp causes it to close and that made me uncomfortable carrying it. I know my fore finger in the choil will keep me from getting cut, but that thing is a razor and i just could never get myself to carry it. So, my big worry with the BOB was if I would trust and carry it.

I have plenty of SAKs that I use with out hesitation, but they don't have thumb ramps that put pressure on the back of the blade the way Spydies do.
What I really needed was to see the action of the ball bearing system, and see and hear if it seemed like a knife I would trust.

Lucky for me jaspy had a youtube video that allowed me to do just that. When I saw him open the knife and heard it snap I was sold. Pulled the trigger and have been edc'ing it for the last two weeks.

I'm thrilled with it. Lock-up is perfect, fit in finish is as good as any of my Seki knives, and i have no worries of this knife closing on me at bad times. The subtle thumb ramp helps a lot, and Bob's liner bearings provide the perfect amount of resistance. It's light, sharp, and fits my hand like a glove.

My only gripe is the small Spyderhole.

Now what do I get next? I've got a lot of catching up to do.:(:D

Congrats on the Bob T. You should really check out the Stretch II FRN in ZDP-189, been EDC'ing that and the Stretch II FRN in VG-10 since they came out.

Here's some eye candy... I switched the clip on mine.

Edit - The actual color is darker, intense window lighting was used.

Major,

I came real close to grabbing the VG-10 strech. I had a Strech 1 and I loved it except for those krayton inserts. FRN would make it near perfect.

The Stretch is definitely my favorite Spyderco, I highly recommend picking one up when you can, especially since you like the 1st generation, Stretch II is a little longer than the original.

I like the Bob T also. Slim and light, with good materials. The blade is thin, so it makes a decent cutter on cardboard and such.

I took off the lanyard and I find the hole difficult to use for some reason (not necessarily a bad thing when lending it out).

I'm surprised that they would have changed the size at all. I thought the point of the Stretch was to fit a 3.5 in blade into the smallest handle they could. Where and why is it longer?

Blade is still exactly the same length, the handle is 3/16in longer. It is a slight difference, which IMO, make the knife fit into my hands a little better.

I suppose with the handle going from ss to frn they had to make molds and saw room for improvement on the grip and added the extra lenght. Is the CF ZDP longer as well? I need to get one of these in my mitts.

Thanx for the info Canis.

Adam,

CF Stretch is longer as well, same as both the FRN versions. No problem Adam :).

Edited for spelling.

IIRC, back when the CF Stretch II first came out, the reason Sal gave for its handle being a hair longer than the original was that screws require more room than pins. Still a great knife.
