Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!

I just converted my an old thermolyne furnance to digital control. I bought my controller off of ebay and wired it in. I even got the solid state 25 amp relay with it. Good deal for $45.00

I converted my Thermolyne from analog to an OMRON ramp and soak process controller. The OMRON controllers will work with almost any Thermocouple on the market. For 2300 F you will probably want to go with either a type K or PLII. Both should handle the temperature range but the PLII would likely be more accurate...but the K type is plenty accurate enough for heat treat and the price difference between the two is substantial. OMRON makes great products for the money but the documentation is pretty technical and not very detailed. I highly recomend a controller with autotune PID loop control built in...otherwise the tuning process can be a pain in the rear.

Omega Engineering is another source for controllers as well as thermocouples, temp probes, meters, heating elements and tons of other stuff. Their number is 800-826-6342 or 203-359-1660. Website is www.omega.com.

Hope is helps,
Cecil

I have an Even Heat oven form Texas Knifemaker Supply. They had it in stock. Did you call them? I like Omega. I use a thermocouple in my forge. They made a high temp ceramic probe for it special. Nice people. Bruce B
