For people who know their watches, Please recommend:
A watch with:

1= most comfortable strap so that I can actually wear it.
2= big display, I don't mean the screen, I mean the numbers and letters
3= Has date on display on the main screen with the time.
4- Would like a stop watch.
5-Ideally would have a compass but this is not important.
6- Durable and tough for hiking travel. Reliable.
7- has light
Thanks guys

Forgot to say, It does not have to be expensive but I am willing to pay up to 300USD

How big of a case size?

Many of the multifunction watches are simply too huge for daily comfortable wear.

If size is not an issue, one of the casio Pro-Trek watches or PathFinder watches may be considered.

Casio also made some large numbered watches for wordwide sale that never made it stateside. I think the GW-300 may have made it stateside, though, and it has big numbers.

Thanks for the recommendations guys.

I dont want it to be huge. The FLATTer the better.

Suunto Vector.

5.11 watches (missing the compass)

Casio triple Sensors.

Have had the triple sensor (2), Currently wear the 5.11 and want a Suunto.

Casio PAW1100T. Great watch, it was a little big at first. However, once you start wearing it the size doesn't really matter. I couldn't ask for more features.

compass, altimeter, barometer, thermometer, world time, multiple alarms, count down timer, solar powered, atomic syncing, back light.

Cons, the compass can act a little crazy...i have a GPS in the car and most of the time when i compare them it is correct, but sometimes i just cannot believe the watch. The altimeter can be off as well (calibrated against the GPS) because it uses barometric pressure to determine the altitude. Thermometer, on your wrist is always off because of your body temp.

However, in the wilderness it gives enough insight to keep you out of trouble all in one package.

Overall I would recommend it.

I would strongly recommend a Casio Pathfinder. I have a lot of watches, but ever since I got this one the rest of them seem to stay in the box, except for Sundays when I dress it up a bit. Great watch, good size, all the features you listed plus some.
1.comfortable band
2.large number display
3.has date on screen
4.has a stop watch
5.has a compass
6.tough as hell
7.has light that lights up all info, not just time
PLUS:
*has day of week display
*altimeter
*barometer(both a big plus for hiking and camping)
*5 different alarms
*military time setting
*water resistant to 100m
Here are some pics so you can judge the size of the watch and display compared to some other watches.

Thank you very much for the input and comments guys.

I appreciate those pictures my friend.

I have two questions guys.
1- What band material would be less annoying on that casio : cloth, or the rubber like material.

2- Solar power: Does that mean I never have to change the battery?

Hey gazaati,

If you can find one with a cloth band, or even a metal band go with that. My PRG-50 Triple Sensor came with the rubber band and it irritates my skin after a while. The solar feature should negate battery changes provided you don't get one with a bad solar cell. Happens once in a great while but I have not heard of many problems with it.

I like my Suunto Vector, and I put Zulu bands on all of the watches that I don't want to lose. I don't know if you can put one on a Pathfinder, but I would imgine so.

I have a titanium band on mine. Works well.

As for solar, in theory you never have to change the battery. However, I have some reports that the solar cell will degrade with age.

the zulu band is the way to go on the casio's. and i believe i remember reading that the battery in the solar casios would last around 10 years. You'll be tired of the watch before the battery every gives you any problem, if you're like me.

Good choice:thumbup: I dont think you will be disapointed. Another fun tip, its the same watch Denzel Washington wore in the movie Man On Fire. Pause it when he has the guy straped to the hood of the car with the bomb up his....well you know, it a pretty clear shot of it.........the watch, not the guys cornhole.:D
