Dilemma- another you have or a new

Nothing new out is catching my eye. I'm pretty picky, so many blades don't make the list.

So at this time, I'm stuck between getting yet another Microtech, or something different that I don't have with the Medford smooth criminal.

Microtech just always calls to me, I sure don't need another but a plain Jane black is missing from my collection. I've grown to adore otf, and find I carry one far more vs manual.

The Medford in my price point would be the smooth criminal. The price and materials don't add up to me, and I've heard about cs and warranty issues,, however huge plus is that Medford is local to me. I'm just not sure about this model, looks small and fat. I love the Protech Malibu, this seems simular but higher cost.

So, would you get yet again a duplicate of something you have more than a few of already or go with the new one and take a chance?

LOL! A Medford that looks small and fat? Come on, Man!

Even their "slim" models look chunky to me. And I also can't justify the price of them.

I do like my ProTech stuff though. I'm certain that if you went down their road with that Malibu, you'd end up with another eventually.

I've found that I discover the coolest stuff when I try something outside my usual "comfort zone" when it comes to knives.

I've seen a few 'old style' slip joints that have really caught my eye... I haven't pulled the trigger yet

3 blade styles, a perfect drop point (leaf shape), a classic clip point, and a wonderful wharny... I really can't decide between them

Microtechs never seem to be a bad choice. The only reason why I dont have more is that they replenish dealer stock with whatever they feel like sending. They are like an eclectic hipster food truck that one day serves gourmet walking tacos and Thai noodles the next. I kinda love them for that;)

I am currently trying out a small fixed blade in place of my CT right now. My work load is moving into the season where I cut a bunch of gummy stuff like packing tape and spend more time on construction sites where dirt finds a way to fill my pockets. The Achilles heel of the OTF is, of course, fouling the action. Anyway, I wouldn't hold it against you for another MT. My big buy of 2021 is going to be a Scarab II PJ drop point. My only gripe about my CT is that the DE has limited uses for a work knife.

Yeah man the double-edge always looks sexy, but I prefer the single edge versions.

When I bought mine, all my local guy had was DE. Thats about all they would send him. He says its kinda nuts for a small/new dealer. You cut them a $10k check and you just get what they send, but they sell out of everything so it is what it is.

I'm really hoping for a drop point to show up. Hell hounds are cool, but im not paying a $200 premium for a funky shaped blade :D

that is just absolutely messed up lol, ... couldn't deal with this 'business model' myself

I'll go with Steely_Gunz Steely_Gunz on this one - go with something different. Since you've come to adore OTFs, any folder will be a tough sell; so I'll also go along with the idea of a fixed blade (if you can legally carry them). Figure out a blade length and price range, and behold the new world that will unfold.
