Hi everyone,

Have you ever found yourself in a dilemma of what knife to keep in the shelf and what other to EDC? Particularly to the point where, in the beginning, you don't want to put to use any of them? How did you decide in the end where each one goes?

Happy Holidays,

Edalb

Greetings Edalb,

Your dilemma is one most of us face from time to time. I've been using/collecting knives for over fifty years, so I have lots of them. Lots.

My EDC philosophy is that I ALWAYS carry two knives. The primary knife changes from time to time but my secondary knife never changes; an old, beloved Victorinox Soldier.

My advice to you is use all your knives in some type of rotation that makes sense to you and your needs. As time passes, you will gain experience with each knife; some will work well for your needs, some will not. You can then decide which knife/knives work best for you. It will probably not be a difficult decision at that point. You will just "know" based on your experience.

Then you will start buying more knives in an effort to find something "better." As with any journey, getting there is a major part of the fun.

Best wishes,
dan :)

I usually carry four to six knives, sometimes more.

The ones that stay consistent are the little ones I carry loose in my pockets, plus my Leatherman and ZDP Caly 3.
The one that gets cycled all the time is my primary EDC.
The Caly 3 is an obvious best choice for a three inch folder (in my opinion), it's the full size EDC that I have a hard time choosing, with so many great designs that do so many different things I find myself torn between them.

Sometimes I will choose based on what I'm doing that day, however on the average day I usually pick the one that does the most things right, is most comfortable in my pocket and hand, is easy to operate, has the best blade geometry etc... It's not too hard to narrow down a (current) favorite.

I am not one who buys knives and puts them away in a box to keep them New. I wish I was at times but I'm not. When I get a New knife it comes out of the box and in to the pocket. From there it is off to work or the cottage or any one of my buddies farms. All the places I just mentioned are great testing grounds for any knife. Most do well some don't. I get a New knife every half dozen weeks or therabouts so I guess Im a collector/User. The time between purchases gives me a good time spread to EDC a knife and see how it and I get on together. I keep some in special case and some on a shelf and some do go back in their box just for storage. Bottom line is I USE them all Some I have for a special purpose. Some I get rid of if I am note happy with it for some reason or another. So to answer your Q, use one today the other the next and so on and so on. If you have to sell them, make sure you have your box and all the extras that may have come with it. People WILL BUY Them. Happy New Year!!!!! ~baba
