Dilemma: Yet another which to buy question.

Okay, folks, I will be turning 35 relatively soon. As such, I will be getting myself another knife. I know, another knife?!?! This will be a special one. I've narrowed the field down, but I would like some advice. I am looking at either a Case/Bose Norfolk, a Case/Bose Tribal Spear, or a Menefee Swayback. To date, I have one custom knife, a Bret Dowell single-blade Trapper (which I carry 50% of the time, lovely knife -- thanks, Vincent!). My question is do I go Case/Bose Collaboration or custom. If Case/Bose, do I do the Norfolk or Tribal Spear. Now, I know the standard answer is, buy them all. Believe me, I would if I could. However, I started my own business this year. What, you started a business in a recession with the worst economy since the Great Depression? I have my reasons. I am an attorney. I am blessed with wonderful partners, a great practice, and great clients. We are making a profit for the year. Not much yet, but hey, we only started in January and had start-up costs. So, I cannot do it all for the foreseeable future.

I value the your thoughts and comments. I've read a lot on here and you've steered me right so far.

BTW --- Elliott, I am sure you'll read this. After reading the how to outfit your ranch thread, I read "Lonesome Dove". I am now reading the series. I find your signature quite amusing.

I'd recommend the Menefee custom. Rick does great work, and his work won't be so affordable or attainable forever.

GO custom. Get the Menefee. His work is only going to get more expensive as time goes by.

The easy answer is go custom & get the Menefee, however, a couple points to consider.

Unless you have a line on one of his knives that you can get now or saw one in the exchange, &/or Makers section, the wait is fairly long (I heard close to 9 mos, but I could be wrong).

If you have to wait for Mr. Menefee to make you one, I'd suggest getting one of the Case/Bose knives. Which one? Whichever one you really like. The Norfolk is very nice & has 2 blades (Opposing) & is 3 3/4", while the Tribal Spear is fairly large (4 1/8", I believe) & has a single blade. It's up to you.

You could get one of the Case/Bose now for your 35th B-D, put yourself on Rick's list & reward yourself for a successful 1st yr when your # comes up.

Just a thought.

Last I heard the wait was around a year for Rick's knives (and totally worth it).

I would get on Rick's list and get a Case/Bose while I waited.

Well, there you go. Then, I would definitely say get one of the Case/Bose, put yourself on Rick's list & reward yourself for your 1 yr anniversary of your new business. See, you can get both (Well, at least 2 or 3).

+1 for the custom on order, and the Case/Bose right now.

I usually have 1 custom on order per year and you don't feel the hurt so much when you are putting a few dollars in an envelope every week...it adds up fast. 6mos to a year is a good waiting time as far as saving the money goes.

Wayne, these guys already had good ideas.I love that Tribal Spear & eventually I'll get one,too
There are a few internet dealers that have some of Rick's knives,as well.
Happy Thirty Fifth B-day & Congrat's on the Business,too

I have a Norfolk and I considering picking up a Tribal Spear. Between the two Case knives, I would prefer the Norfolk for office carry. The Tribal looks great but I would be less likely to EDC it.

Happy B-day and congrats on the business.
