Hello folks,

I have an oppurtunity to buy a large flat ground Seb from the batch due in December, but I also have the oppurtunity to purchase a large, plain, regular in BG-42 for $300 shipped from a friend.

I have a small, plain, regular in BG-42 and the large would make for a nice companion, but...

I'd also like to try a flat ground Seb, so...

I guess what I'd like to know from those who've owned both is, is the flat ground much different from the standard high hollow grind?

Is the difference subtle, or is the flat grind significantly better or worse?(in your opinion)

Enough to justify passing on a large, plain, regular at a killer price?

Thanks!
Josh

Can't compare them cause I never held a flat grind. But large plain regulars show up for sale pretty frequently and the prices are generally reasonable. Flat grinds are rare, maybe you should get it while you can.

Josh,
I do have a flat-ground. I like that flat-ground blade better then most of my hollow-ground spydies, but that's because the grinded part on a Sebenza is much 'larger' then on a Spyderco (for ex. my Starmate or Chinook), so that makes it a different kind of blade all together.

I guess that the difference between a flat and hollow ground Sebenza is really subtle. Probably a flat-ground is 'better' for preparing food etc, and a hollow ground for hunting related purposes (but I have no experience in that field). A nice touch however is that the flat ground is signed by Chris Reeve, and only 130 are made...

John F. Jensen might have one left
