Hey folks...question about my BM 551S Griptilian...in the cavity of the handle there is a steel cross bar...apparently, my blade comes in contact with this bar when closed, as there is a tiny ding/chip/mar in the blade right where they come in touch with each other...any advice on how to fix or avoid this problem? Any info would be great, I'm pretty new here.

Send it back to benchmade to get it fixed, it's unacceptable in a griptillian, the only knife I have that in was my first knife which is a peice of shit with blade play everywhere.

send it back to benchmade. there is no home-made fix for this kinda problem.,,,VWB.

Yes there is a fix, just grind the blade back until it no longer touches !!

Not familiar with the mini-grip, but if it has a closed spine, just loctite a small strip of leather, rubber, or plastic to form a 'bumper' where the blade has been hitting.

If you know how to sharpen a knife just take a course stone or diamond and sharpen until the blade doesn't touch !

You can exchange it for a new one..... if you're within the retailer's time limit. Otherwise send it to BM for warranty work or replacement .

Send it back. It is a factory defect.

Knives should be in proper working order upon recipt. Anything less is unacceptable.

On the plus side BM has pretty good customer service and will take proper care of the situation.

Good luck

It could be a wave in the edge from improper heat treat.Send it back. They will prolly give you a new knife.

My recommendation is to sharpen the ding out.
Then be careful when closing the blade, if you let it snap shut it will often 'over-travel' and make contact with the inside of the handles.
If you are careful, and it happens more, then it's a fault and should be fixed by the factory.

This sounds like the problem that some of the large Skirmish knives had. I would be sending it back to Benchmade.

My BM 550 Griptillian has never done that, and I open and close it by pulling back the Axis lock and flipping it out and back in. Most of the time it slams back in there really hard too. It's got to be a factory defect. BM will definitely fix that.

I don't think you should have to grind back the edge to fix Benchmades mistake. You paid for a full blade, send it back.
