I noticed that I could no longer start direct measages. I figured it was based on my memebership level. I asked another member to DM me for a slae. He had a higher level membership and said he wasnt able to DM me either.

Are DMs shut off completely?
If not, what level(s) can start DMs?
Also, does membership level restric who can receive a DM?

Thank you!

NO.

Any paid membership as long as the member has not exceeded his DM allotment.

Also, does membership level restrict who can receive a DM?
Yes. If you don't have a paid membership, you cannot receive a DM, except if it's from the Staff.

Plainsman, you are currently showing as a Registered member only. So, no DMs.

Thank you for the explanation.

It might be a good idea to reconsider allowing ALL members to respond to DMs so their is a safer path of comms for sales.

Thanks!

The paid subscriptions help fund the operations of this site. Forums like this one do not have anywhere near the ad revenue that FB, Reddit, Insta have so they cannot just offer so-called free services to everyone. Remember, if you are not being charged for a service, then you are the product being sold. Nothing is truly free.

Honestly, if one can afford to buy knives here on the Exchange, it's hard to imagine that $10 annually for the ability to communicate privately and protect your investment can represent that much of a hardship. (No snark intended, but let's be real for a moment.)

It's less than three cents per day for a "Basic" membership.

Unless a person is a member of approximately 60 different forums…
And they happen to buy one knife at one forum…(and its a $50 knife.)

And many of the comments above belong in a private conversation, NOT in a public forum…
Another reason for all members to have access to DMs.
