This is a silly question but I really am not sure.

I am wondering what direction the "smooth side" of the screws face on a regular sebenza. Does the smooth side pair with the show scale or the lock scale? which way does it come from factory? and if the smooth side is supposed to go on the lock scale can I flip them so that all the screws match the pocket clip?

attached are borrowed pictures that I saw online showing two different orientations of the screws.

They come from the factory with the screw heads on the show side, and the full on the lockside. Many people prefer them the opposite way and flip them. It is completely up to you.

My regular (2006) came from the factory with the flat on the show side. I switched so the flat is on the lock side.

I like all the wrench side screws on the clip side, flats all matching on show side.... I never thought about mixing them, that would probably drive me crazy!

That’s exactly how I feel they should be to match the pocket clip and now I’m going crazy because it isn’t the normal way most people have them oriented. Lol

from what I understand the way they come out of the factory with wrench side screws on the presentation side is the way a machinist would do it-as in Chris. Some want the switch, others like me don't care and just leave them. You won't get ridiculed(as far as I know) for changing them.
believe the newer ones have wrench heads both sides(don't have one to check, but that is what I remember)

That “flat” thingy is called a T-nut. The “wrench side” thingy is called a screw.

Both on my umnumzaan and 21 Large the hardware are mounted in the same orientation. Both are having the allen head on both sides. You can tell the difference from the depth of the allen hole. The deeper one is the nut. I would just reinstall the hardware at the same location/orientation as it came from factory.

I thought it was a D nut
They’re called a T-nut because the female threaded barrel is the stem of the T, and the head crosses the T. It is a good idea to immobilize the T-nut. This can be done in various ways. A D cross section on the barrel accomplishes this. A shaped head that fits in a similarly shaped recess can also do the job.

I thought that they were called chicago screws?
The Chicago screw set is a simple type of T-nut and screw. Most of the Chicago screw sets I have seen do not immobilize the T-nut. So Chicago screw sets require 2 tools to disassemble and reassemble.
