Dirty ash trays?

Ya know, I just got done washing up my ash trays...again. Got to thinking, I bet a wax or maybe some type of teflon spray would work good to keep that gunk from building up on the glass. What do you guys think? Anything come to mind that would resist being absorbed into the ashes or being burned off? Maybe something like PAM? Or maybe something silicone based?

I might start experimenting, but I don't even know what would be a good idea. I'd probably try PAM first, then try to find some spray on teflon lube, then maybe some silicone spray on lube...

Recalling kitchen use, don't those vegetable sprays tend to dry pretty quickly.

I think the tar from the cigs will muck up pretty much anything. Maybe you should develop an ash tray liner, gets dirty, toss it, put in another liner.

I think the ashes would stick to wax or oil and make it even harder to clean out.

Give up smoking.

If your cancer sticks are doing that to ceramics, think what they're doing to your lungs.

be careful what you spray on there, if you rest your cig in the ash tray and then pick it up and smoke it the burnt version of whatever you have put on there is going right into your lungs. Silicone would be a bad idea...as would most cleaning fluids I think

Well, I'm not all too worried about picking up contaminants, so I am not big on leaving cigs burning in the ash tray.

Otter, don't tell me to quit and I won't tell you to start ;)

Hey guys, go easy on Buck268.... he appears to be that one in a billion smoker that actually uses his ashtray instead of flicking his butt out the car window. In fact, he may be the ONLY one who does that. Thanks Buck, for not using my world as your ashtray.

ahhh, we truely are hated univerally in today's world, aren't we? I was actually talking about my polished glass ash trays in the home. And I tend to get a lot of gunk built up because I also use them as mini garage cans, and end up putting a lot of wasted fruit scraps in them as well as snot, and all sorts of nasty shyt.

But yeah, I do tend to use my in-car ash tray when on the road... unless the convertable behind me is tailgating! :D

I was watching "How clean is your house" and they suggested spraying air freshener onto the ash trays. The air freshener (like Glade) creates a film on the ash tray (they were glass) and prevents ash and "gunk" from sticking. They should be much easier to clean. Hope that helps.

hmm I will try that! Right now, I've noticed the ash and stuf tends to stick a little less after spending a few minutes with mothers metal polish and a rag. But really not much difference.

Hi All-

If I smoked, I would try spraying Pledge Lemon Furniture Wax on the glass to improve the slickitivity of the ashtray.

Just use your empty beer cans, and don't even touch the glass ashtrays unless "fancy" people come over.

I just watched an episode of Dirty Jobs where they cleaned out a steam ship boiler. The "pro" had Mike put vaseline on his face, which is supposed to make the soot easier to clean off. I would say that this is worth a try.

Its not so much of a problem is its not perfect. In a perfect world, I'd dump the ash tray out and it would look perfect, like it had just been washed because nothing could stick at all. Being that this world isn't perfect, I'm trying to get as close to that goal as practically possible. I'm not too anal about it, but it would be cool ya know...
