I was just watching Magnum Force, and I saw Harry Callahan dig a slug out of a door frame with what I am pretty sure was a Canoe. Anyone else noticed this?

If it was a canoe, it should move that pattern way up on the manliness scale.

Indeed. A canoe is not what I would have expected him to carry. I always pictured Dirty Harry as more of a Stockman kind of guy.

Maybe it was a Gunboat though. I could see that. :D

Hi Zip7 -

Interesting -

I was watching "The Outlaw Josie Wales" the other day and I noticed that he pulled out a folder to cut the ropes on the hands of the "Kansas Pilgrims" after he shot all the Comancheros -

I did notice that he seemed to have to unlock the blade to fold it up after he cut the younger girls( Sondra Locke) ropes. I wondered what knife he used in that movie too.

I'll watch The Enforcer and try to see if I can tell by stopping the frame.

best regards -

I've seen that many times, and I always got the impression that it was some sort of scout knife. Maybe one of those later Imperials they sold at the auto parts stores for 4.99. But whatever it was, it was sharp enough to shave out a good slice of wood from under the lodged bullet.

I figure Harry would carry a scout, since the screw driver would come in handy taking out the cylinder of the model 29 for cleaning, not to mention checking the main spring screw on the lower grip frame in case it backed out from vibration. :D

Carl.

hmmm the million dollar question, what did he pack?

A: A slipjoint, proving once and for all that bad azz tough guys carry slipjoints.

BTW, based on this article, I would say Clint Eastwood carries a SAK ...

"On the one hand, it's nice that people think enough of the movie to nominate it, but on the other, we never started out with that thought in mind," he said of "Million Dollar Baby," fishing out a pocketknife and extracting a pick for his teeth.

Pretty cool, eh?

I watched it last night too and thought it was a scout. The outlaw Josi Wales, the knife he pulled out looked like a trapper to me.

In the movie Blood Work, Eastwood shoots a stack of newspapers at a street kiosk. He promptly uses a pocketknife to dig the slug out and show it to the two smartalec detectives. Anyhoo, I've rewound and freezeframed to no avail. Apparently, Hollywood has a way of making stuff impossible to identify if the maker didn't "pay their dues" in the product placement department. The knife is just a blur.

Might well have been a Canoe. They are slim and unobtrusive in the pocket but offer a broad Spear blade for gouging...
