Dont know if this will get moved but I figure this is the best place for this. I recently realized I have "missplaced" my favorite daypack so I gotta pull out some of the oldies but goodies. Both have been stored for a long time and are nasty dirty with mildew smell but they are solid packs with alot of life left. I was wondering if they could be machine washed? I was thinking about putting them in a zippered pillow case on the delicate cycle. I have a front load washer so its pretty gentle. If not what is your best routine for cleaning nasty packs?

Dang, B, how'd you lose your purse? :D

Doc's got the hook up for that mildewy bag, for sure. I have heard baking soda, but I always hosed it down with Lysol, just to where it was damp, let it sit for a day, and run it under warm water, and air dry outside. This time of year, I think that would make more mildew.

Good luck, let me know if you need help finding your man purse. :D

PS, I got one too, LMAO.

White vinegar! Fill a spray bottle with it, full strength, to clean mildew off shoes, packs, tents, all kinds of things. If it's machine washable you can use white vinegar instead of or in addition to detergent.

The best way to wash your pack is by hand with a brush and soap and water. Laundry detergent of any type is fine. I wouldn't put it in a machine.

I figured I would get a comment from you Moose! I told you I lost it. My beloved Gregory pack. The two older ones are an older REI and Sundog.

I suggest hand washing in warm water and mild laundry soap (Lux or Sard, if you have them in your country) followed by air drying and lots of sunlight.

They will take a washing machine. What I have done is turn it inside out and zipper it up with all straps on the inside when closed.Saves things getting yarded off DAMHIKT.Put it in the washer with a couple bath or dish towels
I posted (while ago) on how to rewaterproof older nylon packs works very well if it needs it
