I want to take my Spyderco Delica98 knife apart. What is the correct procedure? It has two pins on
the frame. Do I just pop/push them out with a punch tool? From "left to right" OR "right to left"? ( I
take my pistols apart by removing the frame pins with a punch tool). I want to remove the two pins on
the Delica98 , so I can clean/polish/grease all imperfections. What is the correct procedure? It looks
very simple , but I want the correct steps from a knowledgeable "knife-smith".

When I "punch" the "pins" out , should I do it with the "blade out/open" or "blade in the down/closed
position"?

I'm not sure you should pop the pins out on the Delica. They've got peened heads and aren't really made to be taken out and put back in. You might end up loosening tolerances by forcing the wide head of the pin through the zytel. I've never taken one of these in particular apart, so someone else please jump in if I'm wrong. I replaced pins in my CS Gunsite folder with actual folder pivot pins that I got from RB Johnson, and thought the handle's zytel as well, the pins are larger in diameter and were easier for me to find a replacement match for. I used the little pointy ginding attachment for my dremel inside my drill press at the highest speed to remove the peened heads.

this is a little off track, but professor, where can i reach RB Johnson? i want to get some of the pins you were talking about.

HariKari,

Instead of going to all of that trouble, why not let us do the work? Spyderco still offers complimentary refurbishing on all of their knives.

Angela,

Could Spyderco replace the pins with screws in a Delica or Native?

Thanks in advance,
