Disable Speed-Safe

I really like the Kershaw Leek for everyday carry, as it's small, light, and pretty dressy.

However, I shouldn't really carry assisted knives on me. So I was wondering - could I disassemble a leek, and disable SpeedSafe, while maintaining the rest of the capabilities of the knife?

Local laws are not very friendly to A/O, and I would still like to carry the Leek.

you can do it, but i am not sure the leek has a detent strong enough to keep it closed (thereby circumventing the gravity knife laws). but others have done this and it has seemed to work out fine for them

:)

Just out of curiosity, and nothing more, gnius where do you like that AO's aren't accepted? I'd like to know so I can avoid that place, or make sure I don't have one on me if they're that big a problem.

And I've messed with a newer one and the ball detent worked well enough to hold the blade in place.

I took the torsion bar out of my Blur and it works fine, but didn't try with the Leek. If the detente isn't strong enough without the torsion bar, just open your Leek two-handed and never lend it to anyone; especially if there's even a 0.0003% chance they're a stupid.

Since the Leek has a safety (er, mine do, so I'm assuming all variations do as well) it shouldn't be a safety problem to carry it, even if the lack of a mating detent hole for the torsion bar ball doesn't provide a lot of tension to keep it closed.

ya you can you just need a torx set then open it up and take out the torsion bar then it will be a manual
