Disabling the assist on an Aftermath?

I'm sure this has come up before, but I couldn't find it with a search, so...

Are there any reasonable options for converting an Aftermath to non-assisted opening? Does it even have a regular detent to hold the blade closed or does it rely on the Robo for that?

Thanks!

to disable the assist mechanism on the Aftermath is going to involve 'surgery'.

like the Dominator, the assist mechanisms spring is also used as a base for a spacer that seperated the scales. removing the spring causes the spacer to be too short. u would have to cut the spring short so that it doesn't function anymore to make it non-assisted. i personally like the HEAT's assist mechanism, much easier to remove without affecting the knife at all.

there is a ball detent on the framelocking side, but i'm not sure if it would be sufficient to keep the blade closed securely. the Aftermath's blade is quite large for a folder.

the Robo-assist really does suck the blade closed though.

Thanks for the reply!

I suspected it would not be an easy conversion, but wanted to find out. Assisted openers seem to be under attack everywhere. <sigh>

I may see if I can order a spare spring from Camillus and cut it down. Then I could just swap springs instead of making permanent alterations.
