Disabling the AutoLawks on CRKT: How to?

I have become very fond of the CRKT line lately. I know the steel is nothing to get excited about but for the money I like them -- especially the M16 and M21 series. One problem though. I don't like the new AutoLawks feature. I am still practicing with getting it unlocked so I can close the knife in a hurry but not very fast yet.

Question: Is there an easy way for the technically and mechanically challenged to simply disable or remove what I would call the "safety" if this was on a gun?

Yep, what GarageBoy said. I have a CRKT Crawford/Kasper Folder that has the non-auto version, and it would just be a matter of taking the knife apart and removing the disk. On the ones that you're talking about you should be able to easily remove the spring and keep the ability to engage the safety manually if you want or remove the whole mechanism. It's a pretty thin piece of metal so you probably won't have any problems with blade play if you remove it, but if you do it should be fairly easy to find a thin washer to stick in there to replace the LAWKS disk.

Errr..I'm saying keep the LAWKS disk..but grind off the tab..
I've removed the LAWKS lever before and WOW, lotsa blade play..(the pivot is set apart by the backspacer and was intended to leave room for the LAWKS disk)

Hmm. . . I don't know if it's a difference between the older LAWKS and the newer Auto LAWKS, or if it's a difference in the construction of the individual knives, but I hardly got any blade play at all after removing the whole disk from my Crawford/Kasper folder. (I had to try int out to see for myself after reading your reply. . . I'm too curious for my own good) It is noticeable though, so I guess I'm going to have to admit that my guess was wrong. :o You can't just remove the disk and tighten the pivot screw enough to avoid blade play.

So, BLM4L, I guess its down to removing the spring and having a manual LAWKS, removing or bending the tab on the LAWKS disk to disable it, or replacing the LAWKS disk with a washer of the same thickness. Good luck!
