My Dreams of becoming the internet's premier balisong store have been CRUSHED. After telling me that all they had to do is process the paperwork my account for Benchmade has been turned down. They really haven't given me a reason yet either.

Since Benchmade is the highest quality balisong on the market the Model 42 was going to be the backbone of my store.

If anyone has any altenative ideas on how to purchase the Model 42 from any other distributor please let me know.

Sorry about that.

I don't see why you would get turned down if you had all the requirements to resale. Are you buying directly from Benchmade? If you are, you might try a distributer. You might try the thread started on the Blade Discussion Forum on wholesale distribution.

Benchmade has lately been being more selective about dealers that they take on as a direct dealer. They initially turned up their nose at another friend of mine. My understanding is that they're looking for 10K$ initial order and reasonable potential for 100K$/year.

I obviously can not speak for Benchmade. Appearances to the contrary at times, I am not a Benchmade employee (I just wear their shirts). But, I would guess that they are looking more for dealers who want to carry the full product line. Fortunately for them, having one of the hottest product lines in the cutlery business, they can be a bit selective.

Right now, just about anyone and everyone is opening an on-line knife dealership. The dot-coms are popping up everywhere. Literally, you can open a website with secure ordering and everything for about $100 total and declare yourself a knife dealer. But, ease is not always a good thing. Many less than earnest and/or less than reputable people are opening knife sites all the time. I intend absolutely no reference to present company. But, the point is that all knife companies are receiving dozens of applications per month from would-be dot-com dealers, most of whom are not people they want to get involved with. Sometimes, the baby may get thrown away with the bath water. It's not just knives. Manufacturers and distributors of everything are taking a very cautious attitude to dot-com instant businesses.

I would suggest talking to Benchmade a bit more about the specifics of their decision and would suggest contacting some distributors including our gracious host here at bladeforums.com.

Never say never, dude.

There are always other methods of getting what you want......... you just have to think it out.

You didn't really think that something you wanted so much would come so easily, did you??

Hey Chung San,

Sorry to hear about the problem amigo. I asked BM the same question when i first heard the 42 was coming out - a gun dealer I know was thinking about ordering a few knives from them. I was told that in addition to a minimum $$ purchase, my buddy would have to buy at least 12 (I think that was the number) differnt models of knives.

Like Clay says tho - don't give up! Persistence pays off, but make it NICE persistence so you don't turn them off.

I'm sorry. this really sucks.there arent enough places to buy balisong knives in public, you dont see many stores devoted to knives only, let alone balisongs. It seems that if BM was smart, they would let you sell their knives. How can it hurt them ? sometimes i just dont understand....

My intention for this post is not in any way to bad mouth Benchmade. They are a great company. I haven't had the opportunity to experience any of their other knives except for the Model 42 that I own. I still recomend their balisongs over any other on the market.

I guess was just hoping to find some understanding. I own a Martial Arts school. My school was going to be my retail location. I had to order twelve different knives. I ordered 4 balisongs and 8 others knives. My sales rep. thinks it might be due to the fact that there is a store about a mile away from me that is allready an authorized Benchmade dealer.
