Disappointed in Hen & Rooster

A while back I purchased a Hen & Rooster trapper with stag scales. It's a pretty enough knife (and pretty expensive) but, to me at least, the blades are of "soft" steel. It will NOT sharpen to a shaving edge and dulls - even from that not-too-sharp state - quickly. Anyone else have any experience with H&R. What do you think of this brand in general?

I do not own any of the modern ones. I am pretty sure they are made under contract in Germany for the folks that own Frost. The few older ones that I own from the 70's are very well made. Problem is I have not used any of them. Maybe someone else has.
