Disappointed (sort of)

I recently purchased a new CRK - a small 31 with box elder inlays, polished slabs, and drop point blade - and have been surprisingly happy with it...then I started seeing wood inlays with insingo blades. I had been under the impression that wood inlays meant drop point blades; that they couldn't be had with an insingo blade. Is this something new? It's probably common knowledge in this subforum; but it surprised me.
I know, I know - it's still the same knife that I've been happy with for the past week; but I can't help but feel a twinge of disappointment, realizing that my knife could have been so much better.
Lest someone point out that this thread sucks without pictures, I'll repost a couple.

I think they just started offering the insingo on the 31 in the last few months. The insingo is a great edc blade but the knife you have looks better to me with a drop point.

That is a beauty, HH, and I get that your disappointment is indeed tempered by how sweet that knife actually is. Of course you know the standard answer here is that you should run out and purchase the Insingo too. 😏

Now, if I did that, this poor thing would end up back in the box & likely not see the light of day for a few years. Besides, right now the score is even... I've got 2 larges and two smalls, and a drop point and insingo in each size. By this time next month, the new one will probably have been carried as much as the other three combined.

That's certainly a good balance if the smalls are good for you. My first CRK was a small 21 with Cocobolo inlays, a drop-point, of course, as there was no such thing as an Insingo back in the day. I almost immediately bought a Bocote large. I liked the first knife, but it was a poor fit for my thick old carpenter's hands. After a couple more larges, I traded away the small for a ZT plus cash as it never really got any pocket time as I'd picked up a Snakewood Mnandi for a CRK gentleman's carry.

Just a thought, and I know you would have to send it in for it..but could you have an insingo blade fitted (with washers) to that knife?

I was never able to warm up to the 21...I kept my large because of the snakewood. I eventually bought a large micarta insingo inkosi, and sort of liked that. Then came a small insingo WC 21... sort of liked that, too - even carried it to work a handful of times before setting it aside. Now this one. (I didn't bother mentioning the 3 or 4 that I tried but sent away)

That's certainly an idea. I thought I had read that they didn't do the insingo with wood inserts (that was specifically regarding the 21, of course; because the 31 hadn't happened, yet), and I didn't see any 31s with that combination until after I'd purchased.

I might have to reach out to CRK. Heck - they can even keep the original blade, if they want it.
Thanks for the suggestion, bhyde bhyde

Only downside is, the "polished" blade isn't available in the insingo.

<sigh>. That would look weird... But so do the unpolished lockbar and clip. I almost didn't but it because of THAT look; but I checked my large snakewood and it was the same (not really "the same" - the difference isn't nearly as noticable on the old one, maybe because of the different finish on the unpolished pieces?)

Im not sure if they would swap a drop point for an insingo. I thought you could only replace a drop point with a drop point but idk I could be wrong.

They have apparently reconsidered some of the "rules" over the years. Like offering inlays with Insingos
The only real way to know for sure is to call.

I wonder if the day will ever come where you can basically customize your CRK like hinderer. Maybe you could even get 21 inlays again. That would be nice! 😁😁

No regrets here love my Small 31 although a Insingo blade will be on my radar for a future purchase. Love the small 31 over the large but just my personal preference as I’ve had both. Thanks for the thread never new they had a Insingo for the 31 .

Not only that, but it's Magnacut steel only.

I believe all the 31's will be Magnacut once they run out of s45vn. Tanto and insingo are only offered in Magnacut at the moment.
I think CRK are already sold on MC being an all around great steel.
There is a video out on YouTube of the son discussing it.

Magnacut is a great steel I use and carry it almost every day with my Barkie PSK . Holds a edge yet very easy to touch up on a leather strop with just green compound. Recycled picture but the knife remains the same 😁
